MARCH 2018 Newsletter

Dear Valley View families:

As we transition from late winter to early spring, it’s hard to believe we have less than three months to the end of the school year. However, there is still much to accomplish! From a school wide perspective this includes finalizing learning plan purchases, state-mandated assessments (CAASPP) in April, and high school graduation in May.

State-mandated assessments allow us to validate our efforts as a public school. The introduction of a new statewide ranking/accountability system (called the California School Dashboard) highlights the importance of state assessments for charter schools like ours. The Dashboard ( is part of the new state accountability and continuous improvement system that moves California from a single score to multiple measures. The Dashboard is essentially a report card for local schools and districts that takes a more holistic look at the performance areas.

Alameda County Office of Education has created a short video (below) to help our community understand the way the Dashboard evaluates all schools and districts throughout the state.

As we enter the last three months of the school year, I encourage you to reflect on the successes of your own learning plans, support our participation in state assessments to validate our efforts as a public school, and know that Valley View staff are working hard to support your learning goals.

Happy Learning,

John Mittan, Director
